In my scaffolding series I am interested in how the same planks and poles are placed in different configurations, creating tensions of structure. Using a T-square and oil bars I enjoy exploring how scaffolding divides the sky. I try to make the scaffolding believable enough while exploring the push and pull of abstract geometric forms in space.

In my representational work I paint scenes of every day life - people, places and activities. While painting I am focused on composition and the process of painting rather than emotion. It is only when I step back to look at what I’ve done that I get a sense of what I really thought or felt about the subject.

In my mixed media work, I use medical imaging, such as x-rays and MRIs, as a point of departure. I combine these images with other materials, attempting to reveal or tell a story in an underpainting.
The 2016 election revealed something dark and puzzling about our country. In my Flag series I use medical imaging as a metaphor for looking under the surface, only to find fractures of bony structures, vessels where blood can’t flow and fault lines that crack under pressure.

After studying Fine Arts at Hunter College and the State University of New York at Binghampton, New York, a year of teaching special education in the Bronx, and another year of designing country album covers in Nashville, I found my career calling – Medical Illustration. Graduate school brought me to San Francisco via UCSF, where I learned medical illustration techniques while having the privilege of taking classes in anatomy, physiology, and surgery.
I love learning about developments in science and translating complex scientific information into easy-to-understand illustrations.
Here are some samples of my medical and conceptual illustrations.
